Man charged with indecent assault of child

A Lansford man has been charged with the alleged indecent assault of a child.

According to the affidavit of probable cause filed by Joshua P. Tom of the Lansford Borough Police Department in the case against Kenneth Monks Jr.:

The female victim, now 11, stated that she was assaulted by Monks, 39, about two years ago when she was about 9, and that she remembers it was very hot outside and even hotter inside the house.

The victim said that Monks Jr. was drinking the night in question and had his two daughters sleeping over for the weekend at his house in Lansford.

The assault was said to have taken place after Monks made the two girls sleep in his bedroom and placed a mattress on the floor, which was where the victim had fallen asleep.

The victim said that sometime in the early morning hours she was awakened by a very strong odor of alcohol and warm breath on her neck and woke up to find Monks kneeling over her.

She said Monks then pinned her down and tried kissing her and touched her inappropriately.

The victim said that at first she was frozen in fear, but that after a few minutes, she was able to escape and ran out of the bedroom.

The victim said she went outside on the front porch and sat in shock, before going back into the house to find Monk sleeping on the mattress she had been sleeping on.

The victim said her sister was still sound asleep on the other bed, so she then went and fell asleep in the guest bedroom.

The victim said she told her best friend at school, as she was in third grade at the time of the assault.

Monks faces charges of corruption of minors, indecent assault - person less than 13 years of age, and indecent assault without consent of other.

He is currently free in lieu of $5,000 unsecured bail, and scheduled to have a preliminary hearing Oct. 20 before District Judge Casimir T. Kosciolek of Lansford.
