Spring has arrived, and along with it, the scourge of gypsy moths.

Ross Township's supervisors discussed the prospect of spraying properties to curtail the damage caused by the insects at Monday night's meeting.In an email from Bruce Andrews of Bruce's Flying Service, Andrews offered two chemical options to treat the problem, Mimic 2L and 76 B Foray BT. Andrews recommended Mimic 2L, but did note that both products specifically target the moths and a few other unspecified problem insects, and do not harm fish or other wildlife.Vice Chairman Tina Drake said that she would prefer to research both chemicals before making a decision.Chairman Howard Beers Jr. said that details concerning the spraying, including a clear price per acre, would be necessary before considering the offer.Beers said any Ross Township resident who is interested in having their property sprayed for gypsy moths should contact the township office at 570-992-4990.In other business, the Ag Security Board took on two new members, Brian Bruno and Rick Meixell, who were recommended by Supervisor Russell Kresge Jr.Kresge also serves on the board, which still requires two residents to complete their panel. Interested parties should contact the township office.Planning commission member Thomas Hockman's resignation was approved by the supervisors, along with the appointment of Meixell to take his place to fill the unexpired term ending in January 2019.
