For a number of years Kidder Township supervisors and residents have discussed the creation of a trail system that would run throughout the township. Thursday night the supervisors took the first step toward financing the project by approving a resolution that will permit the township manager to submit a grant proposal to the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources to begin Phase One of the trails project.

Township Manager Lisa Klem said the grant application is due in early April so it was necessary to vote on the resolution at the March supervisor's meeting, but none of the details have been worked out as of yet."There are a number of things like easements and such to look into before we apply," Klem said. "We don't know for sure how much we would be asking for at this time either, but we needed to get the go-ahead tonight."Supervisor Barbara Franzosa said there is a group of residents looking to put together a volunteer organization to support the trail project and to help preserve the trail. Franzosa said that anyone who is interested in joining should leave their name and phone number at the township office.Klem also said that the township is hoping to receive a Local Share Account grant sometime before the end of the month to complete the work on the municipal building parking lot and sidewalks.The supervisors also ratified a new Emergency Services Agreement with Split Rock Development LLC. Under the terms of the agreement, Split Rock Development will contribute $500 for every lot sold and $10 for every time share sale to the Kidder Township Emergency Services Fund.The township also adopted Ordinance No. 178, which is a newly revised subdivision and land development plan. The new SALDO will be available by request at the township building.
