Five companies are vying for the job of upgrading the electrical and fire alarm systems in Carbon County's historic railroad station in Hazard Square, Jim Thorpe.

On Thursday, commissioners opened the bids. They will be reviewed by Keystone Engineering, with a contractor expected to be chosen in two weeks.The companies are ARC Electric Construction, West Hazleton, which bid $21,300; Billitier Electric, Rochester, New York, which bid $23,707; Wind Gap Electric, Wind Gap, which bid $26,500; George J. Hayden Electric Communications, Hazleton, which bid $29,595; and L&S Electrical Construction, Summit Hill, which bid $39,639.In other business, commissioners approved:• Intergovernmental agreements with East Penn Township, Lehighton Borough and its sewage authority, and Weissport Borough for the development of a Delaware and Lehigh National Heritage Corridor Connectivity project that will build trails for walking and biking.• A budget modification to the state Department of Community and Economic Development for a 2015 grant transferring $11,000 from the Homeless Prevention program to the Rapid Re-Housing program, and the use of direct case management hourly service rate for the match component as recommenced by Carbon County Action Committee Executive Director Kim Miller.
