On Wednesday the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development will conduct its second annual count of the homeless population nationwide.

This Point in Time count will determine how funding will be distributed in the future to help the homeless throughout the country.The Carbon County Action Committee will be teaming up with local agencies Family Promise, Peaceful Knights, CareerLink, and St. Peter's Community Resource Center to help complete the count on Wednesday.Volunteers (teams of three to four) are needed to walk in the following communities: Jim Thorpe, Lehighton, Lansford, Palmerton and Weatherly on Wednesday night or Thursday morning to locate anyone homeless in the county.Volunteers unable to conduct the walk can participate by driving around the community the night or morning of the count to keep an eye out for anyone who may be homeless.If someone is identified as homeless on the night of the count, please contact 610-377-6400, ext. 223.
