During the September Board of Supervisors meeting the Penn Forest board voted 4-1 to advertise for snow removal, with the lone no vote coming from longtime supervisor Judy Knappenberger.

"It is going to cost us more money by bidding it out," said Knappenberger in an interview after the meeting. "It's common sense."Last year the township sold off two of the plow trucks and banked the money for a future vehicle purchase.However, the board approved a motion to put out a bid to plow all township roads this winter instead.According to Knappenberger, the township employees will only be responsible for plowing the two fire companies, the Lehighton Ambulance building, the trash transfer station and the municipal parking lot."We proved it before, when Mr. (Paul) Montemuro was chairman," Knappenberger said. "We saved money by plowing the township roads ourselves. That is why we bought the trucks in the first place."The supervisors also approved a motion to write off delinquent garbage accounts on properties that have been sold at sheriff sale in the amount of $1,542.There are an additional 26 delinquent garbage accounts which will be receiving a letter in an attempt to collect on the accounts.Budget workshops for discussion of the upcoming 2017 township budget will be held every Wednesday evening during October. The meetings will be at 6 p.m. at the municipal building.
