Lion Judy Borger of Palmerton has been named a Melvin Jones Fellow by Lions Clubs International Foundation in recognition of her commitment to serving the world community.

Named for the founder of Lions Clubs International, Melvin Jones, the fellowship is the foundation's highest honor. It is a recognition of commitment to humanitarian service.Borger is a member of the Palmerton Area Lions Club. Borger has assisted at various community fundraising events including the club's annual New Year's pork and sauerkraut dinner held at Sokol Hall, the basket raffle and cash bingo held the first Sunday each November, and the ice cream and waffle stand at the Palmerton Community Festival and the Carbon County Fair.Borger is the corresponding secretary for the Carbon County Fair Board, where she also serves as a director, representing the Palmerton Lions Club. She is best known for her efforts to serve dozens of volunteers the weekend before and the day following the fair.Borger joins several other existing and prior Palmerton Lions Club members who are Melvin Jones Fellows, including Charles Beer (deceased), Rodney and Domenica "Menna" Borger, Leonard L. and Grace Borger and Michele Fredericks.
