Rehrig brothers, fireworks open Carbon fair

The 18th annual Carbon County Fair will be located on Little Gap Road in Palmerton and will run Monday, Aug. 7 through Saturday, Aug. 12.

Fair hours will be 4 to 10 p.m. daily.This year's theme is "Country Scenes, Blue Ribbon Dreams."The agricultural fair will be open rain or shine. There will be lots of covered seating at the main stage so remember to bring your lawn chair.On Monday, The Rehrig Brothers will entertain the crowd with performances on the main stage at 5 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. The opening ceremony and fair queen crowning is planned for 6 p.m. The popular DJ Chicken Nugget will offer free line dancing lessons at 7 p.m. in the arena area with line dancing to follow from 8-10 p.m. New this year is a Zero Turn Competition, sponsored by Hillside Small engine at 7 p.m. in the small arena.The fireworks spectacular will end the evening with the greatest show in Carbon County at 9:30 p.m.DJ The Doctor will open for Ryan Pelton on Tuesday beginning at 6:30 p.m. There will be a garden tractor pull at 6 p.m. in the small area. Tuesday is children's Day with many prizes, including bicycles to be given away at 7 p.m. Children must be present to win.Wednesday will feature Georgette Jones, daughter of Country Legends George Jones and Tammy Wynette. It's also Senior Citizens Day with a special drawing to be held at the main stage at 8 p.m. There is also a demolition derby at 7 p.m. in the main arena which will include a Junk Car Race and the popular Youth Demotion Derby for ages 12-15.The Belle tones take the stage on Thursday evening with two performances at 6:30 and 8:30 p.m. Barnyard Olympics (previously Fun Games), open to the public begin at 5:30 PM. Register early to win some premium money. The second demolition derby of the week will be held at 7 p.m. in the main arena with Kids Power Cars, Full size Cars and Compact Cars.On Friday, The Large Flower Heads appear at 6:30 and 8:30 p.m. with those favorite songs from the 80s and 90s. The "Tuff" truck event will be held in the main arena at 7 p.m.Saturday hosts One Night Stand and The Cramer Brothers with shows at 5 and 7 p.m. and an "Outrageous Jam session" at 9 p.m.An antique field stock tractor pull will be held in the small arena beginning at 4 p.m. New this year will be a radio remote control demo derby at 7 p.m.Other activities at the fair include great food, games, rides, agricultural exhibits, the Carbon Model Railroad display, Buster the Clown, Chainsaw carving, Farmer for a Day, Hit and Miss Engines, Smokey Bear and much, much more.The admission fee is $5 per person for everyone 6 years and older, which includes musical entertainment. From Allentown, take Route 145 North to Route 248 West to the Palmerton Exit to Delaware Avenue. Stay on Delaware Avenue and go through Palmerton. At the Y, stay right, fairground is three miles on the right. From PA Turnpike, take exit 74 to 209 South to 248 East. Take Palmerton Exit and follow directions above. From Stroudsburg take 209 South and turn left on Forest Inn Road (just past Country Junction) through Aquashicola, bear left on to Little Gap Road, fair is three miles on right.
