An elderly woman died in a one-vehicle crash in North Whitehall Township, Lehigh County, on Wednesday.

State police at Bethlehem identified the victim as Betty J. Peters, 91, of 3318 Friedens Road, Slatington, Washington Township.She was pronounced dead at the scene at 7:32 a.m. by deputy coroner Jason Nicholas.Troopers said the crash occurred sometime between 1 and 7:15 a.m. According to troopers Peters was driving a 2001 Chevrolet Lumina westbound on Levans Road, passing Apple Road in Schnecksville, when she failed to negotiate a right curve in the road. The Lumina went onto the berm and hit a traffic sign and then struck a tree.After striking the tree the car became airborne while rotating clockwise. The car came to rest about 30 yards south of the road in a yard.The coroner’s office said an autopsy was scheduled for this morning to determine the cause of death.Trooper Robert Hooper, who is investigating the crash, asks anyone who might have witnessed the crash to call him at 610-861-2026.
