Lycoming County man given state term for drug dealing

A Lycoming County man who previously pleaded guilty to a drug-dealing charge was sentenced on Friday in Carbon County court to a state prison term.

Dawud Rifi Rice, 39, of Williamsport, was sentenced by Judge Joseph J. Matika to serve nine to 36 months in a state correctional institution on a charge of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, heroin. The sentence runs concurrent with a prison term he is currently serving imposed by Lycoming County court.

He was arrested on Sept. 28, 2016, following a traffic stop along Interstate 80 in Kidder Township by state police at Fern Ridge. He was also ordered to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and pay court costs of about $1,000.
