An area man was apprehended after he led police from Mahoning Township and other local agencies on a manhunt this morning following a traffic stop.

According to scanner reports, Mahoning Township stopped a white Chevrolet S-10 pickup along Hemlock Drive just after 8 a.m.After a brief conversation with the officer, the driver kicked off his shoes and took off on foot, entering a wooded area.Police described the man as 5 feet, 9 inches tall, with curly hair, wearing gray sweats and running barefoot.Officers from Summit Hill, Lehighton, Jim Thorpe and state police assisted in the search.The Pennsylvania State Police search helicopter was also requested to assist.Numerous sightings of the man were reported as he traveled east in the woods toward Lehighton.The man was apprehended at 10:17 a.m.No other information about the man, charges or search were available as of press time.
