Gala visits Roaring '20s

It's been 90 years since F. Scott Fitzgerald penned the American classic "The Great Gatsby."

Set in the Roaring '20s, the book delved into a world of mystery, parties and intrigue that many still fantasize about today. In honor of Fitzgerald's timeless tale, as well as the men and women who have made Blue Mountain Health System's two hospitals a premier hospital network for the past 25 years, Woodstone Country Club in Danielsville will take a step back in time on April 18 to become an entertaining party for the ages, complete with a password to gain entry and a speakeasy setting, during the 18th annual Blue Mountain Health System gala. This year's theme is Silver Gatsby.Cocktail hour begins at 6 p.m. and dinner is at 7.The party will then get started with a casino night and silent auction following dinner. The charity ball, which is the largest fundraiser for the hospital, will benefit a number of projects in the health system, including finishing room renovations in the Summit Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Lehighton. The hospitals have been working to update all of the patient rooms over the past six years. The goal is to raise $100,000 during the black-tie affair to cover the cost of the projects that will help the system best serve the community for years to come.Joseph Guardiani, vice president of fund development and government relations at Blue Mountain Health System, said this year is also special for the health system."We are going to use the event to honor our physicians who have been employed by the health system for at least 25 years," he said."These doctors started under Gnaden Huetten Memorial or Palmerton Hospital but came forward with the merger."A total of 37 physicians will be the hosts and guests of honor for the evening."These names represent a lot of years of dedicated service," Guardiani said."It's nice to find a way to say thank you to them."He noted that this honoree plaque will be hung in the board room at the health system's Bowmanstown site and will be continually added to on an annual basis. The gala is open to the public.Tickets are $150 per person. For more information, Guardiani said to call his office at 610-377-7183 and he will send them an invitation.Sponsorship is also still available. Guardiani said that if anyone would like to become a sponsor, to call him.The annual gala has helped the hospitals build a better-equipped facility to serve the Carbon County area.Past projects that have benefited from the gala include a new Adult Behavioral Health Center in Lehighton, digital mammography equipment, and a 4D ultrasound machine.Past themes included the Rat Pack, Casino Night, A Night of Decadence, The Galileo Gala, Lavender and Lace, and The Pink Ribbon Gala.
