Slatington Borough Council discussed purchasing a specialty snowplow and filling a vacancy at a special meeting Monday night.
Council made a motion to purchase a $6,884 specialty snowplow from Bethlehem Plasterer Equipment Co. Inc.According to councilman David Schnaars, the company agreed to pick up the vehicle to install the plow and service any future issues."We need to move this week. Right now we will be getting free shipping, but it ends at the end of the month," Schnaars said.Councilman Bryon Reed had suggested going directly to the manufacturer to purchase the equipment."It'll cost about $1,000 less if we go directly through the manufacturer," Reed said."Sooner or later we will pay for it with maintenance. Right now we have a good relationship with Plasterer. They service other equipment for us," Schnaars said."We're already halfway through February with only March to go. Is this really something we need to buy right now?" said council President Gwyneth Jones."We can't guess on the weather. We could've bought this same thing for half price about five or six years ago." Schnaars said. The council voted to purchase the plow through Plasterer.Council also announced a new wastewater treatment plant assistant operator and laborer.Richard Simon was named after a 20-minute executive session, for personnel and legal matters, to fill the borough vacancy.
