A Nesquehoning woman is facing multiple vehicle violations after she was driving erratically, nearly causing several crashes, while under the influence of drugs.

According to the affidavit, the charges against Amy M. Lower, 39, of West Mill Street, stem from an incident that took place just before 4 p.m. May 12.Nesquehoning police Chief Sean Smith was dispatched to the area of Route 209 for an erratic driver who was coming into the borough from Jim Thorpe. Reports state that the driver, later identified as Lower, driving a Mercury Mariner, was driving very slowly, brake checking vehicles, throwing trash out of the car window and nearly caused several crashes.Smith saw the Mariner along Route 209 near Oak Street and watched as it crossed the center double yellow line twice.He was able to identify Lower as she passed and conducted a vehicle stop.Lower said she was fighting with her husband, whom she said was high on meth, and getting drunk.She was argumentative, the affidavit states, and Smith noticed her eyes were red, glassy and her pupils were constricted.He then asked her if she was on any medications, to which she rattled off a list of 12 that she was currently taking.Smith spoke to three witnesses, including the caller, about Lower's driving.Officer Timothy Wuttke arrived to assist at the scene and was told that Smith believed Lower was under the influence of something.While speaking with Lower, who was yelling about her husband, Wuttke noticed she was moving around in her seat a lot and asked if she was OK.Lower failed field sobriety tests. At that time, she again became argumentative.Lower was told that a drug recognition expert was on his way to further test her. Blood tests were taken from Lower, which showed that she had drugs in her system.She was charged with two counts of DUI and one count each of careless driving, disregard of the traffic lane and scattering rubbish.Lower faces a preliminary hearing before District Judge Casimir Kosciolek at 2:30 p.m. Oct. 26.
