Summit Hill Borough Council hired an assistant secretary during a special meeting this week.

Amber Shemansikof Summit Hill, who had previously served in the position for several years until she resigned in 2012, was given the job at a rate of $11 per hour.Shemansik was chosen from five applicants. She will assist secretary/treasurer Kira Steber.Councilman John Chapman said that following interviews with the candidates, Shemansik was clearly the choice.In favor of Shemansik were council President Michael Kokinda, Gregory Kosciolek, John O'Gurek and Chapman. Absent were council members Karen Ruzicka, William O'Gurek and David Wargo.Shemansik succeeds Gail Miller, who was an assistant secretary until several months ago.In other business:• The council voted 4-0 to place Michael Alabovitz on the borough's board of appeals.• An estimate on sewer main repairs was submitted by Stony Lonesome Excavating of Summit Hill for repairing 350 feet of 15-inch main on the west end of White Street. Stony Lonesome submitted the estimated cost of $17,850 without materials.The council said it got the estimate on request from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection.No action was taken on making the repairs or hiring Stony Lonesome Excavators.
