Police investigate Schuylkill crashes

A teenage driver was cited in a two-vehicle crash that occurred at 10:37 a.m. on Sunday at the intersection of Water Company Road and Morea Road in Mahanoy Township, Schuylkill County.

State police at Frackville said a 16-year-old female from Mahanoy City was driving a 2004 Jeep Liberty northbound on Water Company Road and stopped at a posted stop sign with Morea Road. She then intended to cross the intersection to enter Mahanoy City Road as William J. Mack, 34, of Barnesville, driving a 2012 Ford Escape, was westbound on Morea Road. The teen drove into Mack’s path. Mack attempted to avoid the collision by swerving to the right but couldn’t, troopers noted.

Upon impact the Liberty spun counterclockwise about 45 degrees coming to rest facing northwest. No one was injured. Both vehicles had to be towed.

Troopers also reported investigating a one-vehicle crash at 8:55 a.m. on Aug. 4 along Interstate 81 in Ryan Township. Troopers said Jason M. Sedeski, 19, of Edwardsville, Luzerne County, was driving a 2015 Volkswagen Jetta northbound in the left passing lane when he lost control. The vehicle crossed over the right lane and struck the guide rail along the berm.

Sedeski was not injured but the vehicle had to be towed. He was cited for driving a vehicle at a unsafe speed.
