Katelynn Bear is announcing her candidacy for both a two and four-year term on the Lehighton Area School Board.

She is a lifelong resident of Lehighton and graduated from Lehighton Area School District in 2006.She obtained her bachelor's degree from DeVry University and is currently a medical records clerk and pharmacy tech/representative at PA Foot and Ankle Associates.Several of Bear's family members are current students of Lehighton, which further solidifies her commitment to education.As a former student, she has witnessed the district grow and adapt to change and is aware of the unique challenges the board has been faced with in recent years. She hopes to address the needs and concerns of the students, faculty, and taxpayers within the community, in a forthright and honest manner. Her goal is to ensure all students receive a quality education in a safe and healthy environment. Transparency for parents and taxpayers alike is of the utmost importance to her when it comes to the role of school board director, which is something she feels the current board is lacking.Bear has been a longtime supporter of the "Make A Wish" organization and is a current participant of "Moms for Make A Wish" greater Pennsylvania and West Virginia Chapter.She is also an active supporter and advocate for Autism Awareness. As a former peer helper who has studied special education in a collegiate setting, she is aware of the unique challenges that students with individual needs face and will see to it that these students receive the accommodations and attention they require to thrive within the school setting.Bear believes that all students, no matter their abilities, deserve a quality education in a positive and supportive environment. She looks forward to working with other board members and citizens within the community to ensure the districts needs are properly addressed and all community concerns are taken into consideration.
