Lansford man admits assaulting doctor

A Lansford man pleaded guilty on Carbon County court this week to an assault incident involving a doctor at an area hospital where he was taken following his arrest for a disturbance at his residence.

Neil Kennedy, 58, pleaded to one count each of simple assault and resisting arrest for an incident on Nov. 8, 2015, at 124 W. Ridge St.According to an affidavit of probable cause, officers Joshua Tom and Thomas Fort were on duty when Daniel Kennedy walked into the police station, bleeding from his nose and mouth, and with red marks on his face. He told the officers that he was in the kitchen, getting dinner, when his brother, Neil Kennedy, came running down the stairs and started attacking him. Police called Lansford EMS to take Daniel Kennedy to St. Luke's Miners Hospital in Coaldale for treatment.Police arrested Neil Kennedy at his house without incident. Neil Kennedy's right hand and knuckles were bloodied, but he had no other injuries. He was also taken for medical treatment. That was when police said he assaulted Dr. Aron Ratner at the hospital.Kennedy is currently in prison on probation/parole violation charges. He was also incarcerated on the instant charges when he failed to post bail.President Judge Roger N. Nanovic II sentenced him to serve one to 18 months on each count, running concurrently, followed by six months or probation.He was also ordered to get both drug and alcohol and mental health evaluations, pay court costs of about $1,000 and pay a $50 per month supervision fee when released on parole.
