Part-time Walnutport police officer Jason Nothstein asked Borough Council the status of his employment. Nothstein has the least seniority and a funding issue is threatening to take his job.

Council made it clear that there was no issue with Northstein's performance; as a matter of fact they said he's doing a "great job." It's purely a matter of seniority and funding. The council motioned to allocate funds from other sources to cover the officer's salary for the time being.The Council was asked if the officer would have to live from month to month not knowing if he will have a job. Council said because we're in the 'hole' financially, they have no choice but to go month to month.Earl Snyder, a Walnutport resident, said that Council President William Turk, "was always against the police department." He was very upset that a police officer will be laid off because of funding. Snyder accused Turk of being afraid to raise taxes even if it meant letting the "guys, who risk their lives for the community go."Turk disagreed saying he had a son-in-law on the force and that Snyder's statement was untrue. Snyder also objected to the 'elaborate' playground that was built instead of putting that money towards the police department.A resident, who asked not to be identified, said she was there because the state police are being considered to fill the gap if the Borough has to let officers go. She said she's lived in Walnutport for 47 years and she depends upon the local police department for quick response time. She's afraid that if she ever needs help it would take the State Police hours to respond.In other business, Bill Hardgreaves, who is adding on an addition said he paid an inspector $500 to inspect the work as he proceeded. However, the inspector was in a serious auto accident and is currently in a coma. That means that Hardgreaves is without an inspector.Michael Corrier, Solicitor suggested he hire another inspector to ensure any work he does is inspected and improved, reducing the risk of having to tear it apart in the future. He also suggested that Hardgreaves approach the wife of the injured inspector to see if he could get a partial refund so he could hire someone else.
