Carbon County court

Two people who previously pleaded guilty to criminal counts were sentenced on Monday in Carbon County court.

Judge Steven R. Serfass imposed sentences on:Gerard George Nieroda, 23, of Kunkletown, previously pleaded to driving under the influence but in a plea agreement based on a recent Supreme Court ruling, he was sentenced on a charge of accident involving an attended vehicle.He was arrested on Jan. 3, 2015, along Route 209 near Route 248 in Weissport after being involved in a hit-and-run crash. He refused a blood test.He was placed on probation for a year and ordered to make restitution for damages in the amount of $761.08 and render 50 hours of community service. On three summary offenses he was fined at total of $75 and costs.Daniel Patrick McGoldrick, 22, of Lehighton, was sentenced on a DUI charge to serve 30 days in the county prison followed by 59 months in the county's Intermediate Punishment Program with the first 60 days on electronic monitoring. He was fined $1,500, his license was suspended for 18 months, and he must render 100 hours of community service.He was arrested on Sept. 19, 2015, along Pohopoco Drive in Towamensing Township by state police at Lehighton. A test showed the presence of a controlled substance.He began the jail term immediately.Each defendant must also pay court costs of about $1,000, a $50 per month supervision fee and follow all recommendations of their drug and alcohol evaluation.
