Carbon County offices may be reopening to the public, but officials are still urging people who have business in those offices to call ahead.

On Thursday, Commissioners’ Chairman Wayne Nothstein put out the message that while services are available and Carbon is in the green phase, making an appointment to come into the necessary office, whether it be in the courthouse, administration building, 76 Susquehanna St. or any of the county operated buildings, is still encouraged.

“Do not let your guard down,” Nothstein said referring to the pandemic that is still raging throughout the United States. “Please wear a mask and social distance. ... It’s not over yet and won’t be over for some time.”

Commissioner Chris Lukasevich noted that the county should begin to look at a 90-day period to talk to its offices to figure out the challenges that were faced, how those challenges were confronted and what can be done next time in preparation of a second wave of infections, which many health experts are saying will happen.
