Oil company burglary is reported

State police at the Schuylkill Haven barracks are investigating a burglary that happened between 2 a.m. Dec. 25 and 6:30 a.m. Dec. 26 at the Liberty Oil Company, Port Carbon.

Police said someone entered the property by cutting a metal link chain that holds the main gate closed and upon entering the property, attempted to enter the main building through a rear door by breaking the door handle mechanism. After that unsuccessful attempt, the actor(s) rummaged through trucks owned by Everdale Trucking, Inc., and took miscellaneous items. They also stole five heavy duty copper electric cables from the trucks.Police said the thieves then cut a chain to an oil storage tank containing 20,000 gallons of oil and attempted to open a valve. They cut an electrical feed to a valve that pumps oil to pipes that load trucks and flipped down overhead pipes that fill tanks, causing a minimal amount of oil to spill on the lot.Police said the actor(s) fled on foot by cutting through a section of metal fencing at the rear of the property, leaving the scene along the railroad tracks that travel toward the bridge at Palo Alto.
