Pine Grove suspect arrested after courthouse threat

Pottsville Police have arrested a suspect from Pine Grove for the phone threat to the court house that precipitated the closing of the Schuylkill County Courthouse today.

The courthouse closed at noon and employees were sent home after a threat of violence was left on the building's voice mail over night, according to a prepared statement issued by county commissioners and President Judge William Baldwin.

The message stated that a "related threat was indicated possible violence at an unspecified school district if the courthouse was not shut down."

The information was given to all schools in the county, the statement said.

Marian High School was on lockdown. Tamaqua School District conducted classes as usual.

Schuylkill County Chief Detective Dolly Malec said the district attorney's office was not releasing any additional information as of noon. Efforts to reach county commissioner George Halcovage and President Judge William Baldwin were unsuccessful.
