Prayer service to mark closed parish's 125th anniversary

The Coal Region Catholics for Change will celebrate the 125th anniversary of their recently closed parish with a prayer service at noon Sunday.

The prayer service will take place outside the former St. Katharine Drexel Roman Catholic Church in Lansford. From 1891-2008, the church was known as St. Michael's.Sister Kate Kuenstler, the canon lawyer currently leading the fight to reopen St. Katharine's will be the keynote speaker at the event.The group has also planned a procession of families and children, biblical readings, and speakers from the Lansford Historical Society and other organization.Coal Region Catholics for Change consists of members of the former St. Katharine's, St. Francis of Assisi in Nesquehoning, Our Lady of the Angels School, and now includes Our Lady of Lourdes in Weatherly.People interested in supporting the organization can check out the group's pages on Facebook and gofundme.com, or write to Coal Region Catholics for Change c/o Lisa Stefanick, 616 E.
