The September meeting of the Nesquehoning Historical Society will be held at 6 p.m. on Tuesdayat the borough hall building, 114 W. Catawissa St.

Members will be reading and voting on the newly proposed society bylaws, so all members are urged to attend.Ron Chupp will be the special presenter.Chupp owns and operates the Black Diamond Gallery at 31 West Broadway in Jim Thorpe. He is a professional artist specializing in lithography and oil painting.Chupp is originally from South Bend, Indiana. He began his career in art at age 16 by taking a painting class offered through the local art league. He sold his first painting for $20 when he was still in high school.After high school he began work as a commercial artist doing custom detailing on high-end conversion vans. He completed a bachelor's in fine arts at Indiana University in 1994.Following his graduation he spent several years traveling and selling his work at art fairs.Chupp came to Jim Thorpe because he was looking for a midway point to meet up with his girlfriend who was then living in New York City. They were both interested in mountain biking, so Jim Thorpe seemed like a good fit. In 2008 they married and moved to Jim Thorpe.Chupp uses Bavarian limestone in his work. The particular stones that he uses were originally used commercially starting in the 1800s. AfterChupp's presentation, light refreshments will be served.Everyone is invited to attend.
