Coaldale names road section near Route 209

On Tuesday, Coaldale borough council motioned to name an unnamed section off of 209 “Anthracite Avenue” per recommendation of the 911 communication center located in Pottsville.

Due to the center receiving multiple calls from the area and having trouble locating where exactly the emergency is occurring, they recommended to the Coaldale police department that the area be named.

The area is following 209 leading toward Lansford on the right.

Other business

A late audit from 2016 is holding back the borough from receiving a grant it is applying for. Council agreed to try to work with their current auditor, but if they are not able to reach a solution, they said they will consider other auditors to do the job.

A depository sale has been denied due to previous projects not being complete.

The motion to deny was made by Councilwoman Francis Hutta and seconded by Councilwoman Ann Girard.

Ryan Boyle was approved to be hired as a part-time borough worker after discussing his clean background check. The motion was made by council Vice President Claire Remington and seconded by Hutta.

Anthony Houser was hired part-time as needed on the recommendation of police Chief Keith Krapf.

Fire chief Steve Polishchak was approved for a designated parking spot in front of his home.

Office hours for the Coaldale borough office will remain as is until Friday, when Schuylkill transitions into the green phase. Beginning Friday, the office will resume regular business hours.
