(AP) By the end of the year, the Schuylkill Mall will close, according to tenants who attended a meeting Tuesday with representatives of the property owner.

On Tuesday morning, representatives of NorthPoint Development, the agency which owns the mall near Frackville, met with the remaining tenants at the Schuylkill Mall Community Room. The tenants, including Pearl Theatres, have 60 to 90 days to close, according to Ryan P. Blakeslee of Ashland, manager of one of the stores there, Vertigo Systems."We kind of saw it coming," Blakeslee said."There are no more anchor stores," said Janelle Poletti, an employee at the Benigna's Creek Vineyard Wine Shop.The Schuylkill Mall opened in 1980.In 2015, the mall lost two of its longtime anchor stores, Kmart and Sears.The Bon-Ton closed April 25."In my opinion, there was no way they were going to be able to revive this mall. And they did say during the meeting that they don't know their plans, but they may knock it down," Blakeslee said.Attempts to contact NorthPoint Development were unsuccessful as of 3:30 p.m. Tuesday.
