A Hometown native has been promoted in the U.S. Navy.

Lt. Cmdr. Chad Trubilla, a native of Hometown, was selected for promotion to the rank of commander this year.He was also picked and slated as the prospective executive officer, and subsequently, the prospective commanding officer for the guided missile destroyer USS Rafael Peralta DDG 115, which is one of the Navy's newest commissioned Arleigh Burke Class Destroyers.Trubilla is a 2015 honor graduate of the Navy's new Top Gun school for Surface Warfare Officers, titled Naval Surface and Mine Warfighting Development Center.Officers selected for the center's elite program receive graduate-level education in strategy and tactics for 19 weeks, and are tactically the best of the best in the Navy for ballistic missile defense, air defense, anti-submarine warfare, surface warfare and amphibious warfare.Trubilla graduated from SMWDC, and is an Integrated Air and Missile Defense Warfare Tactics Instructor, an officer charged with enhancing the tactical proficiency of sailors stationed on Navy cruisers, destroyers and amphibious ships.His training includes space operations, specific defense design analysis, electronic warfare, joint theater air and missile defense, joint ballistic missile defense planning and employment, and one week of academics at Naval Aviation Warfighting Development Center in Fallon, Nevada, home of naval aviation's storied Top Gun for fighter pilots.At all stages of the curriculum, candidates are tested and trained in advanced instructional techniques, and are required to demonstrate proficiency in those techniques before graduation.Upon graduation, Trubilla was assigned to SMWDC's headquarters in San Diego, where he is the warfare tactics instructor in charge of intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance.Trubilla graduated from Tamaqua Area High School in 1997, and is a 2001 U.S. Naval Academy graduate.He lives in Southern California with his wife and two sons.
