A Carbon County man admitted stealing a tip jar from a business place to feed a drug habit.
He entered a guilty plea on Monday before Judge Joseph J. Matika.Steven David Holtzer, 24, of Palmerton, admitted to one count of theft. He entered Cabreras Pizzeria & Restaurant, at 161 W. Ridge St., in Lansford, on June 15 and grabbed a tip jar from the counter. He fled the business and got into a waiting vehicle.Lansford police stopped the vehicle a short time later and found Holtzer in possession with the stolen money, which totaled $27.Holtzer admitted to a drug addiction problem and has a pending drug charge. Matika said the theft fits the pattern of a drug addict, “You steal to get money to support your habit.” Holtzer agreed.Matika placed him on probation for a year and ordered he render 50 hours of community service, get a drug and alcohol evaluation and follow any recommendations for treatment and stay out of Cabreras.
