Carbon County officials are looking for public input for the 2016 Community Development Block Grant program funds for communities.

On Thursday, the county commissioners voted to advertise a second public hearing notice for the projects, which include:Entitlement projects• Franklin Township, $69,752 for replacing an existing culvert on Red Hill Road. A hearing will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 18 at the administration building, 889 Fairyland Road.• Jim Thorpe, $55,106.44 for water/sewer improvements at Third and Eighth streets, and $18,146.56 for water/sewer improvements on School Street between West Front and Sixth streets. A hearing will take place at 6:30 p.m. on Nov. 10 at Memorial Hall, 103 E. 10th St.• Lehighton, $78,104 for replacing ADA handicap ramps at the corners of North Second, Cypress, 11th at Hamilton, 12th at Hamilton and 11th at Mahoning. A hearing will take place at 7 p.m. on Oct. 24 at the borough hall, 1 Constitutional Ave., second floor.• Mahoning Township, $70,042 for reconstructing and resurfacing Pine and Douglas streets. A hearing will take place at 6 p.m on Nov. 2 at the township building, 2685 Mahoning Drive East.• Palmerton, $77,523 for reconstructing and repaving West Princeton Avenue from Fireline Road to Hillside Avenue, including sidewalks and curbing. A hearing is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Oct. 27 at the borough hall, 443 Delaware Ave., first floor.Nonentitlement projectsHearings for nonentitlement project communities, which are selected annually by the county to share in a portion of CDBG designated to Carbon County, will take place at 7 p.m. on Oct. 24 at the Summit Hill Borough Hall, 40 W. Amidon St., Suite 3; and at 6 p.m. on Nov. 14 at the Tresckow Hosey Community Hall, 26 E. Oak St., Tresckow.Projects include:• Banks Township, $66,250 for replacing and redirecting the sewer line on Cherry Street.• Beaver Meadows, $33,472 for drainage improvements on Dean and Martyn streets.• Lansford, $20,000 for installing ADA handicap accessible doors to the borough building.• Lower Towamensing Township, $35,000 for Aquashicola playground improvements.• Summit Hill, $37,500 for Ginder Field recreation improvements.Other businessThe commissioners also recognized John "Chet" Michalik of Summit Hill for his role in establishing a Parkinson's/MS Carbon County Support Group and being named with his daughter, Nicole, as the chairs of the 2016 "Walk to Stamp Out Parkinson's" in the Greater Philadelphia area this Saturday."We are very proud of you," said Commissioner William O'Gurek. "The strength that you show not only with living with Parkinson's but for what you have done in the Panther Valley and Carbon County areas in starting a support group where you can help people with similar medical issues live as normal a life as possible."Commissioner Thomas J. Gerhard told Michalik he was a role model for a lot of people."The most important thing is getting the awareness out there," Michalik said, choking back tears. "You have to get out of your room and start moving. If you have it, you have to fight it and knock it in the eye."
