The southbound lanes of Interstate 81 in Schuylkill County were closed Thursday morning due to a serious crash.

Emergency personnel were called to the scene near 6 a.m. of a reported Jeep under a tractor trailer at the 104.9 mile marker.

Rescue crews took several hours to free the trapped occupants.

Interstate 81 was closed at the Tremont exit.
