The Preceptor Alpha Upsilon chapter of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority met twice in February, hosting a Valentine's party for residents in the assisted living facility at St. Luke's Hospital - Miners Campus and planning for an egg hunt.The party was held at the assisted living center. Each resident received a goody bag and flower.The annual Community Easter Egg Hunt will be heldSaturday at the Howard D. Buehler Memorial Park (Bungalow). The hunt is open to all children between the ages of 1 and 10 and will begin at noon.There is no registration for this event. Organizers ask that participants don't arrive too early for safety concerns.The second meeting of the month was held at the home of Marie Umbriac. End of sorority year plans were discussed, and Umbriac provided the group with a synopsis of her vacation in Key West, Florida.Blood driveA Red Cross Bloodmobile will be held in Tamaqua on March 23 at the Salvation Army gymnasium, 105 W. Broad St. Hours will be from 1 to 6 p.m.Anyone 17 or older, in good general health, who weighs at least 110 pounds, is eligible to donate blood.Walk-ins are welcome. President Melody Weicker conducted the business session.The invocation "A Daily Wish" was offered by Ruthann Feane. Vern Balliet was added to the sick list. Two new members were welcomed, Irma Leibensperger and Wendy Perla. Several members were welcomed back, including Nancy Moser, Nancy Gerber and Jacque Patrick.Members were reminded there would not be a meeting during Holy Week.The next meeting will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 17, at the Tamaqua YMCA, 1201 E. Broad St.The group is open to anyone 55 or older and the YMCA is handicap accessible.Library story timeThe Tamaqua Public Library's Spring Story Time session will begin March 22 and 23. The free sessions are open to preschoolers between the ages of 2 and 5.Sessions will be held for 10 consecutive weeks, Tuesdays and Wednesdays, concluding in May. In addition to story reading/telling, participants will learn new songs, design special crafts and enjoy a snack. The public is welcome to attend.Zion LewistownPastor Jim Williams will officiate at the 10:30 a.m. worship service this Palm Sunday in Zion Church of the Lewistown Valley.
