A 25-year-old Tamaqua woman was cited for a motor vehicle violation after a crash this week that seriously injured a lifelong Tamaqua-area farmer.

Amanda Alonge of Tamaqua was cited for driving at an unsafe speed after the Monday morning collision with a farm tractor in Walker Township.According to the Pennsylvania State Police report, Scott Leiby, 61, was traveling south in the area of 981 Catawissa Road on a farm tractor towing an implement.Alonge was also traveling south on the same road in a 2013 Ford Escape when her vehicle crashed into the rear of Leiby's tractor.The force of the collision knocked the International tractor on its side. It came to rest on the right shoulder of the road.Leiby was pinned under the tractor's roll bar, causing severe injury to his arm.According to police, the Alonge car kept traveling south some 53 feet after smashing into the tractor and came to rest facing south in the northbound lane.There were no skid marks visible at the scene, a section of roadway with a posted 30 mph speed limit.Family and friends were able to free Leiby from the wreckage.He was airlifted to Lehigh Valley Hospital Trauma Center by MedEvac with traumatic injury to his right arm.Alonge suffered a minor injury and a 2-year-old boy in the vehicle was not injured, say police.The SUV was demolished and the tractor sustained heavy damage.Although Catawissa Road is winding and narrow, the crash took place at a straight section of the rural roadway located just beyond the crest of a blind hill.The weather was dry and sunny at the time of the late-morning collision.A member of the Leiby family said cars routinely speed along the country roads.News of the incident drew plenty of comment on Facebook."People drive way too fast on that road," wrote Kathy Semko of Tamaqua."These are rural roads, not highways," wrote Nadine Richards Blair of Summit Hill.Relatives said a fund, possibly through the GoFundMe site, will likely be set up to help the Scott Leiby family.
