A Lehighton man went on trial Tuesday in Carbon County court on charges of indecent assault and related counts.

Robert Henning II, 28, faces three counts of indecent assault, one being a felony, and one count each of corruption of a minor and indecent exposure.The jury panel of seven women and five men heard testimony Tuesday from the 15-year-old female victim. The panel also heard several other Commonwealth witnesses called by Assistant District Attorney Michael S. Greek.The trial is expected to conclude today.Seven year periodThe young girl told the jury that the sexual assaults began when she was four years old and continued until she was 11, when she told her mother about the incidents. The assaults allegedly occurred in a home in Franklin Township.The girl was living in Bangor in 2008 when she told her mother of the assaults. Bangor police were called and interviewed the victim. When it was determined that the assaults occurred in Franklin Township, the Bangor police notified township Police Chief Thomas Beltz, who took over the investigation.The girl said Henning would take her to his bedroom and show her pornographic videos on his computer. He would then touch her inappropriatedly over her body and make her touch his private parts.She said the assaults began when she was four years old and continued on a regular basis until Henning got a girlfriend and it stopped for a time. However, the victim said, when the girlfriend left the home the assaults on her resumed.She said in 2008 she confided in a girlfriend. The girlfriend urged her to tell her mother. She said she did not tell the mother immediately, but did a month or two later.Under cross-examination by defense Attorney Gregory Mousseau, the victim admitted telling one person who interviewed her that Henning also showed her pornographic movies on a television in the home, which was located in a downstairs room, which was contrary to what she had told police.She also admitted about incidents where she was caught in lies by her family and punished and that she was expelled from school twice for stealing and lying about it.Greek also called an investigator from the Child Advocacy Center in Scranton, who interviewed the girl and made a video of the interview; the girlfriend who the victim first told about the assaults; the victim's brother; and children and youth officials involved in the case.Mousseau is expected to call family members of Henning's family and the defendant in his part of the case.The trial is before President Judge Roger N. Nanovic II.
