Carbon County court — DUI

A total of 18 defendants entered guilty pleas in Carbon County court on May 8 to driving under the influence and related charges.

Judge Joseph J. Matika accepted the pleas during the session held under special conditions due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Those entering pleas included:

Jay Michael Zelinsky,

49, of Palmerton, was arrested on March 24, 2018, by Palmerton police. He was originally charged with 13 counts. He previously pleaded to the charge and one count of driving under suspension, DUI related.

On the DUI count he was sentenced to serve 30 days in jail followed by 59 months in the Intermediate Punishment Program, house arrest, with the first five months on electronic monitoring. He was also ordered to pay a fine of $1,500, license suspended for 18 months, render 100 hours of community service and supply a DNA sample. He was given credit for 30 days spent in an inpatient rehabilitation program on the charge.

On the suspension count he was sentenced to serve 90 days in jail, concurrent with the DUI count and pay a fine of $500.

Thomas G. Ferrell Jr.,

44, of Albrightsville, was arrested on Aug. 13, 2017, by Kidder Township police.

He was sentenced to serve 10 days to 24 months in jail, pay a fine of $500, one-year license suspension and render 50 hours of community service. He was given credit for 21 days spent in an inpatient program and paroled.

Rebecca Suzanne Johnson,

51, of Weissport, pleaded in two DUI cases. She was arrested on Jan. 13, 2019, by Franklin Township police and on July 2, 2019, by Lehighton police.

Sentencing was deferred so she can apply for placement in the IPP, house arrest.

Christian Ale Verrastro,

25, of Lehighton, was arrested on March 9, 2019, by state police at Lehighton.

He was placed in the IPP for six months with the first 18 days on electronic monitoring, ordered to pay a fine of $300, license suspended for a year and render 25 hours of community service.

Theron David Jones,

24, of Palmerton, was arrested on Aug. 8, 2015, by state police at Lehighton. The case had 25 continuances.

Sentencing was deferred so Jones can obtain a drug and alcohol evaluation.

Michael John Dulina,

38, of Weatherly, was arrested on June 15, 2019, by state police at Hazleton.

Sentencing was deferred so Dulina can apply for the IPP.

Alec Evans,

23, of Palmerton, was arrested on May 24, 2019, by state police at Lehighton.

Sentencing was deferred so Evans can apply for the IPP.

Shawn Leonard Davison,

41, of Summit Hill, was arrested on Dec. 27, 2019, by state police at Lehighton. He also pleaded to possession of drug paraphernalia.

On the DUI count he was sentenced to serve 72 hours to six months in jail, pay a fine of $1,000, one-year license suspension and render a total of 50 hours of community service. On the drug count he was placed on probation for a year, concurrent with the DUI charge.

He will begin the jail term at 9 a.m. on May 29.

Gregory L. Gilroy,

53, of Palmerton, was arrested on July 6, 2019, by state police at Lehighton.

Sentencing was deferred so he can obtain a drug and alcohol evaluation.

Paul Charles Gibson,

56, of Palmerton, was arrested on Nov. 2, 2019, by state police at Lehighton.

He was placed on probation for six months and ordered to pay a fine of $300 and render 25 hours of community service.

Kevin R. Marnell,

64, of Jim Thorpe, was arrested on Oct. 31, 2019, by state police at Lehighton.

He was sentenced to serve 48 hours to six months in jail, pay a fine of $500, one-year license suspension and render 25 hours of community service.

He will begin serving the prison term at 10 a.m. on June 7.

Richard N. Snyder,

51, of Albrightsville, was arrested on Aug. 17, 2019, by state police at Fern Ridge.

He was sentenced to serve five days to six months in jail, pay a fine of $300, one-year license suspension and render 25 hours of community service.

He will begin serving the jail term at 5 p.m. on June 12 and serve three days; then 5 p.m. on June 19 and serve two days.

Yvonne Ann Zukosky,

54, of Weatherly, was arrested on Dec. 1, 2017, by Palmerton police. In exchange for the plea, a charge of possession of a prohibitive weapon was dropped.

Sentencing was deferred.

William Michael Meyer Jr.,

28, of Jim Thorpe, was arrested on Aug. 16, 2019, by state police at Lehighton.

He was sentenced to serve five days to six months in jail, pay a fine of $300, one-year license suspension and render 25 hours of community service.

He will begin the jail term at 9 a.m. on June 12 and serve three days and June 19 and serve two days.

Travis Lee Reed,

34, of Lehighton, was arrested on June 13, 2017, by Mahoning Township police.

Sentencing was deferred so he can apply for the IPP.

Michael Sarik,

37, of Palmerton, was arrested on June 11, 2019, by state police at Lehighton.

He was sentenced to serve 72 hours to six months in jail, pay a fine of $1,000, one-year license suspension and render 25 hours of community service.

He was given credit 32 days already served and paroled.

Michael John McFadden Jr.,

31, of Nesquehoning, was arrested on Aug. 5, 2019, by Lansford police.

He was sentenced to serve 72 hours to six months in jail, pay a fine of $1,000, one-year license suspension and render 25 hours of community service.

He began the jail term immediately. He is currently an inmate in the county prison awaiting action of a parole violation.

Michael C. Strohl,

35, of Weissport, was arrested on Sept. 11, 2018, by Lehighton police.

Sentencing was deferred so he can obtain a drug and alcohol evaluation. He is facing a 12 months minimum prison term at the time of sentencing.

Each defendant sentenced must also pay court costs of about $1,000 and a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation or parole.
