Where we live: Mother’s Day the coronavirus way

There will be no in-person family brunch.

Hugs and kisses will be few and far between.

Taking her out for a special meal isn’t even an option, for Pete’s sake.

Tomorrow is Mother’s Day, a time for mothers to be honored by their children.

And while this year’s rendition will undoubtedly be different, the good news is that mothers can still be the center of attention on their special day.

With social-distancing rules still in full effect due to the coronavirus pandemic, sons, daughters and husbands must find imaginative ways to celebrate their moms/wives.

Just because it may prove a little more difficult to find that perfect gift, that doesn’t mean Mother’s Day gift-giving has to be canceled.

So, what exactly can we get her, or do for her, under these most unusual of circumstances?

Plenty, according to Forbes.com, which offers several safe and affordable ideas.

• Seize the opportunity to get creative.

• Don’t gift a face mask (provided she already has a few of her own).

• Consider house plants.

• Support her hobbies, or help to cultivate new ones.

• Put together a memory keepsake.

• Keep delivery delays and restrictions in mind.

• Spend virtual time together.

• Shop local.

• Write a letter.

Personally, I would suggest the following options.

• Make breakfast in bed.

• Have flowers delivered.

• Sing a song.

• Write a poem.

• Call and have a takeout dinner delivered to her doorstep.

• Give her that favorite box of chocolates.

• Take her for a drive to a local lake.

• Call her and tell her how thankful you are.

• Visit cemeteries to honor those deceased.

Above all else, tell her how much she means to you, as it would surely be appreciated.

Perhaps even more so now than ever, as one never knows what tomorrow will bring.

Especially in these most unprecedented of times.
