Weissport council discusses trash issues

Weissport Borough Council met Monday night for the first time since Gov. Tom Wolf issued stay-at-home orders.

Council conducted a phone conference with Jonas Kreitzer of Carbon County Waste.

The borough is experiencing problems with residents’ bulk items that are placed out for trash and not getting taken away.

Carbon County Waste had recently been uncomfortable picking up personal bulk items from people’s homes because of the virus.

“There are items being left out on the streets that are an eyesore,” Councilman Thomas Rutledge said, “and it’s making our town look ugly.”

The borough had contacted Carbon County Waste seeking replacement trash cans, recycling bins and small trash cans for the elderly.

The borough is also seeking to resolve issues with the hauler picking up used tires.
