Monroe man charged with assault of uncle who was later found dead
A Monroe County man has been charged with the aggravated assault of his uncle earlier this week, who was later found dead.
Kerdeen Lawrence, 25, of Mount Pocono, has been charged with aggravated assault and simple assault of his uncle, Andre Lawrence, 46, of Mount Pocono.Kerdeen was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Thomas Olson, and is currently in the Monroe County Correctional Facility in lieu of $500,000 bail.According to Pocono Mountain Regional Police Chief Chris Wagner, at 8:06 p.m. Monday, the Pocono Mountain Regional Police Department assisted the Mount Pocono Fire Department with a smoke investigation at 14 Stonegate Drive in Mount Pocono Borough.The investigation revealed smoke coming from the home's furnace exhaust, but there was no danger to the occupants of the home.Police spoke with an occupant of the home, Kerdeen, who was determined to be intoxicated.At 10:15 p.m. police were called back to the home for a domestic dispute.Police spoke with various occupants of the home who said that Kerdeen was fighting with his uncle, Andre.Police found both Kerdeen and Andre at the house. They were intoxicated and sleeping, police said.They woke them and asked Andre if he was injured, and he said that he was.Police called an ambulance.Medical personnel attempted to evaluate Andre; however, he was uncooperative, and would not elaborate on his injuries.Kerdeen said that he was not injured and wanted to go upstairs to go to bed.Medical personnel and family then assisted getting Andre to bed.On Tuesday, at 9:32 p.m., the Pocono Mountain Regional Police were called back to the residence for a deceased man, who turned out to be Andre.Family members said that Andre was last seen alive in the early morning hours on Tuesday.The subsequent police investigation revealed that during the fight involving Andre and Kerdeen, Kerdeen had repeatedly punched and kneed Andre multiple times.Police arrested Kerdeen for aggravated and simple assault.Police are continuing to work with the Monroe County Coroner's Office, forensic pathologists and the Monroe County District Attorney's Office to determine the cause and manner of death.
