Effort UMC continues with its Lenten services at 7 p.m. today. Today's theme on Give up Something Bad for Lent is: Give up a Bad Habit, based on Luke 19:1-10.Jerusalem UCC, Trachsville, will host the multichurch combination of UCC and Lutheran churches, neighboring churches in Carbon and Monroe, focusing on Living Lent. The Rev. David Schnaars will preach on Praise.The evening begins at 6 with a simple soup supper, then a joint choir rehearsal at 6:30 p.m. and the worship service at 7 p.m.Zion Lutheran will continue its topic of Exploring the Muslim Faith, with Islam and Charity - What is the Islamic Understanding of Charity?The evening begins with a soup supper at 6, the study beginning at 6:30 and a Lenten worship service at 7:30 p.m.Our Lady Queen of Peace, Gilbert, will host the Lenten Penance Service at 4 p.m. Sunday for the seven sister Roman Catholic churches sharing in such Lenten services.Eldred meetingThe Eldred Township board of supervisors is to meet in regular session at 7:30 p.m. today.Chestnut RidgeA covered dish will be the lunch at the Chestnut Ridge Senior Citizens group meeting Thursday at the Kunkletown Fire Hall.Doors open at 9 a.m. for the exercise program led by Rosemary Allocco from Pocono Medical Center.A business meeting is held at 11 a.m. Bingo is played after lunch. There is a small fee.Before the business meeting people can play cards, games or just visit with one another.At the group's first meeting in February, Valentine's Day was celebrated and a king and a queen were elected. Mae Borger and Grace Borger were honored. Two women were chosen since all male members had, in years past, previously received the honor.March 24 is the group's Easter celebration.
