During Wednesday's commissioners meeting, Monroe County Commissioner John Moyer took the time to read a proclamation recognizing November as Unity Month which he then presented to the Monroe County Council on Inclusion.
The proclamation specifically honored the memory of the late Robert Hillman, founder of the Unity Coalition of the Poconos and co-founder of the Monroe County Council on Inclusion, noting that Hillman's "words and actions exemplified respect and service on behalf of the human rights of all our residents."The proclamation went on the encourage the county, municipalities, school, group, businesses and others within the county to organize cultural and business events throughout the month that respect and showcase the increasing diversity of the people of Monroe County."We in Monroe County have been very privileged/blessed that we have not experienced some of the issues that have affected other areas of the country," Moyer said. "I don't think that happens by accident. We are all in this thing, we are all members of this community.""When it comes to what the community means to me, it's easy. Monroe County is a great place to live, it's a melting of the barriers."
