OnNov. 12, the women of the Lioness Club provided children and their families with a special visit from Kriss Kringle.

Held locally at the Chestnuthill Township Park Recreation Center on Route 715, children of all ages enjoyed the merriment of decorating a sugar cookie, creating an age-appropriate craft, and having their picture taken with Santa Claus.In the background, bringing special cheer and the spirit of Christmas to life, was a one-man band playing the organ and xylophone.Joan Hoffman and President Cynthia Waters said the event was moved up from its original date in December due to the competition in the area.Proven a success, the line was the longest it's been in the five years the event has been held."This year, the turnout for this event far exceeded the one hundred children who attended last year," Waters said.The Lioness Club was established over 35 years ago, bringing female volunteers together to help serve the needs of residents of Monroe County."All donations and/or fundraisers remain within Monroe County," Waters said."Last year, the group raised over $4,000, which went directly toward women's resources."Waters said, "The community and the club support one another."For example, items for purchase such as soup mixes and special batters raise funds that go back to the community."Any donation is appreciated," Waters said.The Lioness Club currently has 28 members, but there are always openings for new members to join.The group will hold events in the Pleasant Valley School District and Country Junction over the next few weekends.The "Patriot Coloring Contest" will be held in June where children will enter letters to soldiers.
