The Western Pocono Women's Club has planned to visit the Getz Personal Care Home today to bring some holiday cheer, a cookie social, to the residents, and perhaps a bearded visitor.Advent celebrationOur Lady Queen of Peace Church has an Advent presentation: A Journey to the Inn - An Advent Celebration, scheduled for 6tonight in the church atrium. The English version being presented by the Knights of Columbus.Heritage CenterAt 6:30 p.m. today, the Heritage Center of the Western Pocono Community Library is presenting the last lecture in the series for 2016. The township's Planning Commission meets at 7 p.m. Thursday.Seniors menuThe Chestnuthill Seniors meeting at Zion Lutheran in Brodheadsville, as part of the Monroe County Seniors, can have Salisbury steak on Friday and baked pork chop next Wednesday for lunch.Call site manager Dolores Casalaspro before 11 a.m. the day before at 570-242-6770 or 570-420-3735 and remember, there is a suggested meal donation.If the schools are closed due to inclement weather, the Senior Centers will also be closed.Christmas cantataA joint choir of St. Matthew's UCC and Effort UMC members will present its cantata at St. Matthew's in Kunkletown at 7:30 p.m. Friday and at 6 p.m. Saturday at Effort UMC.The cantata is "He Shall Be Called."Wreath makingThe families of Zion Lutheran have been invited to join in a wreath-making with Ruthie at 9 a.m. Saturday.There is a sign-up sheet in the narthex. Participants are asked to bring gloves, staple gun and pruning clippers.Musical programMiddlecreek Christian Church in Kresgeville will present a musical program titled "A Glorious Night" at 7 p.m. Saturday. That will be followed by decorating the sanctuary.Community mealsOur Lady Queen of Peace hosts several free community meals each month. On Saturday it is a free breakfast.Then on Sunday it is a supper, served from 4:30 to 5:45 p.m., and on Wednesday it is a luncheon at 12:30 p.m.There is no charge for the meals.Sunday scheduleSalem-St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Kresgeville, has a busy Sunday schedule this week. It includes 8:15 a.m. Holy Communion; 9 a.m. Sunday school for all ages and Confirmation class; 10:30 a.m. Holy Communion with a Christmas program; 11:30 a.m., a Christmas lunch; and from 2 to 5 p.m., deliver and set up angel toys at Christ United Lutheran in Hamilton Square.CarolingSt. Matthew's UCC will gather for lunch at the church and caroling around town. Children, youth and adults are invited to help cheer up neighbors with a few tunes. The youth will also bake cookies and put them in festive tins for each household being visited.
