The food pantry for Palmerton area families in need is open from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Friday. The CACPAC-sponsored pantry is located at St. John's Towamensing Lutheran Church, 2925 Fireline Road, Palmerton.The pantry serves households in Palmerton, Towamensing and Lower Towamensing townships, and the Palmerton School District including Bowmanstown. Sunday coffee hour will follow the service.Yoga classesYoga classes are offered every Saturday morning at 9 a.m. at the Palmerton Area Library, 402 Delaware Ave. Call the teacher at 570-436-1762 for more information or stop in on any Saturday morning.World Relief QuiltersThe Lutheran World Relief Quilters at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 502 Lafayette Ave., Palmerton have been hard at work cutting, sewing and tying the quilts. The group is looking for donations of sheets, double or larger flat sheets work the best, to use for knotted quilts. The quilts are sent to Lutheran World Relief, which distributes them to truly needy families.The group is always looking for new people who like to sew, cut or tie. All the work is done at home. To drop off sheets or fabric or for more information, call the church at 610-826-2524.BreakfastBreakfast will be served at Parryville Fire Co. 2, 359 Main St., Parryville, from 8 a.m. to noon Sunday. Music will be by Olde Friends from 6-9 p.m. There will be a brown bag auction and a gun raffle. A cake walk will be at 5 p.m. For more information call 610-390-3811.Heritage centerWhile attending Palmerton's Community Festival, take time to stop by the Palmerton Heritage Center, 410 Delaware Ave. Although The Moving Wall has moved on, the display of Vietnam photos (courtesy of the Lehigh County Historical Society) and artifacts from local veterans will continue until at least Veterans Day in November. The center also displays items on the New Jersey Zinc era, as well as historical Palmerton. The center is open Wednesday through Saturday each week. Admission is free, but donations are gratefully accepted.Compassionate FriendsThe Compassionate Friends of Carbon County offers ongoing support groups for parents, grandparents and adult siblings grieving the loss of a child, grandchild or sibling.
