Blair County man who smacked a baby in the head in Tamaqua as he attacked a woman who was holding the infant will serve a year on probation.

Sean A. Maraj, 32, of Altoona, was charged by Tamaqua police with endangering the welfare of children, aggravated assault, simple assault, reckless endangerment, harassment, disorderly conduct on Sept. 11, 2016.The charges of harassment, reckless endangerment, aggravated assault, simple assault and disorderly conduct were withdrawn in district court.Schuylkill County Judge Cyrus P. Dolbin sentenced him to 12 months on probation.Police responded to multiple calls of a domestic dispute in progress in the 600 block of East Elm Street at 5:20 p.m. They spoke with a female victim and two witnesses, all of them stating that Maraj assaulted the woman, who was holding a baby at the time. The victim was choked, slapped and punched, with one of the blows striking the child's head.The baby was transported by ambulance to St. Luke's Miners Campus for an evaluation.Judges also placed 13 other people on probation. All were ordered to pay court costs and fees.Michael J. Harley Jr., 27, of Tamaqua, was charged by Rush Township police with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia on Nov. 3, 2015.Judge John E. Domalakes sentenced him to 12 months on probation on the paraphernalia charge. The controlled substance charge was dropped.Michael M. Setlock, 30, of Tamaqua, was charged by Rush Township police with possession of drug paraphernalia on April 22, 2016.Domalakes sentenced him to 12 months on probation.Jessica L. Brobst, 28, of Tamaqua, was charged by borough police with theft of services, theft by unlawful taking, and theft by deception on May 18, 2016.Domalakes sentenced her to 12 months on probation on the unlawful taking charge and the same on the deception charge, to be served concurrently. The remaining charge was dropped.Dustin A. Hill, 30, of Philadelphia, was charged by McAdoo police with driving while his license was revoked or suspended, driving with unsafe equipment, and possession of drug paraphernalia on March 3, 2016.President Judge William E. Baldwin sentenced him to 12 months on probation on the paraphernalia charge, and 60 days in jail on the license charge.The unsafe equipment charge was dropped.Joseph Kamant, 24, of Tamaqua, was charged by Tamaqua police with driving while his license was revoked or suspended, an accident involving damage, careless driving, and possession of drug paraphernalia on Oct. 14, 2016.Dolbin sentenced him to 12 months on probation on the paraphernalia and accident charges, to be served concurrently, and fined him $200 on the license charge. The careless driving charge was dropped.Terrence L. Moore, 30, of Lansford, was charged by Coaldale police with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia on March 4, 2016.Dolbin sentenced him to 12 months on probation on the substance and paraphernalia charges, to be served concurrently.Victoria L. Schmitt, 42, of Tamaqua, was charged by Tamaqua police with harassment on July 29, 2016.Dolbin sentenced her to 12 months on probation.Janelle M. Ostrowski, 37, of Tamaqua, was charged by Tamaqua police with theft by failure to make a required disposition, theft by unlawful taking, and receiving stolen property on July 20, 2014.Dolbin sentenced her to two years on probation on the disposition charge, and to pay $3,876 to Dunkin' Donuts.The remaining charges were dropped.Tina M. Miller, 54, of Tamaqua, was charged by Tamaqua police with possession of a controlled substance, driving while her license was revoked or suspended, and possession of drug paraphernalia on July 6, 2015.Domalakes sentenced her to 12 months on probation on the controlled substance charge, and 12 months probation on the paraphernalia charge, to be served concurrently. He fined Miller $200 on the license charge.Rocci A. Schuima III, 38, of Tamaqua, was charged by Tamaqua police with simple assault, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and harassment on Dec. 11, 2016.Domalakes sentenced him to 12 months on probation on the resisting and conduct charges, to be served concurrently. The remaining charges were dropped.Matthew M. Hartranft, 33, of Pottsville, was charged by Tamaqua police with possession of drug paraphernalia, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct on Nov. 6, 2016.Domalakes sentenced him to 12 months on probation on the resisting and paraphernalia charges, to be served concurrently. The remaining charge was dropped.Joseph J. Michaels, 26, of Pottsville, was charged by Ryan Township police with theft from a motor vehicle, theft by unlawful taking, and receiving stolen property on Aug. 31, 2016.Domalakes sentenced him to 12 months on probation on the theft from a motor vehicle charge. The remaining charges were dropped.Justin T. Hill, 36, of Coaldale, was charged by borough police with driving under the influence and failing to keep right on March 26, 2016.Judge Charles M. Miller sentenced him to six months probation on the DUI charge, and ordered him to enroll in Alcohol Highway Safety School and substance abuse treatment.The other charges were dropped.
