Matthew Karnish, son of Gary and Kristen Karnish of Nesquehoning and a student at Marian Catholic High School, has been named as a commended student in the 2014 National Merit Scholarship Program. Sister Bernard Agnes IHM, Marian principal, presented Karnish with letters of commendation from the school and National Merit Scholarship Corporation, which conducts the program. Karnish was inducted as a member of the Robert F. Kennedy Chapter of the National Honor Society in his junior year. He is also a member of Marian's Green Club, Student Council, Eucharistic Ministers, Peer Tutors, Student Ambassadors and the Marian Colts football, baseball and track and field teams.
