Yardley man admits indecent assault of girl

A Bucks County man admitted Thursday in Carbon County to indecent assault on a young girl.

Andrew James Shavel, 37, of Yardley, pleaded guilty before Judge Steven R. Serfass to one count each of indecent assault and corruption of a minor.Shavel was charged by state police at Fern Ridge following an incident at a residence along Lovelace Road, in Albrightsville.Troopers said on July 1, 2011, a then 9-year-old girl was at a residence and entered a bedroom where Shavel was present. He made inappropriate contact with the girl, troopers said.Because the charges fall under the provisions of Megan's Law, Shavel must be evaluated by the state sexual offenders assessment board to determine if he is a sexually violent predator.Serfass accepted the pleas and deferred sentencing until the assessment is completed.
