State police at Fern Ridge routinely make numerous traffic stops along Interstate 80 in Carbon County resulting in arrests for drunken driving, motor vehicle code violations and drug possession charges.

Two people involved in such vehicle stops, and who were eventually charged with drug related counts, entered guilty pleas in Carbon County court on Tuesday and are facing prison terms when they are sentenced.Nasir Marquise Lawrence, 24, of Philadelphia, was a passenger in a vehicle stopped on April 13 while westbound in East Side Borough. He acted suspiciously, which led to the arresting trooper to request a consent search of the vehicle. Police found 21 grams of heroin, which Lawrence admitted belonged to him.He pleaded to one count of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and was told by Judge Joseph J. Matika, who accepted the plea, that he faced a prison term based on state sentencing guidelines and his prior record. Lawrence is currently an inmate in the state correctional institution at Camp Hill, Dauphin County, serving a sentence imposed in Lycoming County.Matika deferred sentencing and ordered the adult probation office to prepare a presentence investigation report.Darryl Christopher Hill, 29, of Williamsport, was a passenger in a vehicle stopped on Feb. 17 near the Luzerne/Carbon line. During that stop troopers were granted a consent search by the driver and found 23 grams of heroin and 36 boxes containing empty baggies used in the sale of illegal drugs.Hill also pleaded to possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance. He was also told he faces a prison term at the time of sentencing based on his prior record.Matika deferred sentencing and ordered a PSI be prepared by the adult probation office.
