Five defendants entered guilty pleas to driving under the influence charges on Monday in Carbon County court.

President Judge Roger N. Nanovic II accepted pleas from the following:Jesse Lee Jones, 33, of Palmerton, was arrested on Sept. 28, 2016, in the 100 block of South First Street by Lehighton police. He refused a blood test.Nanovic sentenced him to serve 72 hours to six months in jail, a fine of $1,000 and one-year license suspension.He will begin the jail term at 9 a.m. Feb. 3.Joseph John Merrick, 35, of Scranton, was arrested on Aug. 19, 2016, along Route 903 at the turnpike in Penn Forest Township by state police at Fern Ridge. A test revealed a 0.12 BAC.He was placed on probation for six months and ordered to pay a fine of $300.Andrew I. Hitcho III, 29, of Lehighton, was arrested on Nov. 23, 2016, along Bridge Street in Weissport by state police at Lehighton. He refused a blood test.Nanovic sentenced him to serve 72 hours to six months in jail, a fine of $1,000 and one-year license suspension. On a summary motor vehicle code violation he was fined $25 and costs.He was given credit for five days already spent in jail on the charge and paroled.James Kennedy III, 31, of Newtown, Bucks County, was arrested on Aug. 23, 2016, along Mahoning Mountain Road by Mahoning Township police. A test revealed a 0.26 BAC.He was sentenced to serve 48 hours to six months in jail, a fine of $500 and a one-year license suspension.He will begin the jail term at 9 a.m. Feb. 6.Michelle Alyse Crawn,50, of Kunkletown, was arrested on Sept. 15, 2016, along Route 209 in Franklin Township by state police at Lehighton. A test revealed the presence of a controlled substance.She was sentenced to serve 72 hours to six months in jail, a fine of $1,000 and a one-year license suspension.She will begin the jail term at 10 a.m. Feb. 13.Each defendant must also pay court costs of about $1,000, pay a $50 per month supervision fee and follow all recommendations of their drug and alcohol evaluation.
