Schuylkill man jailed for assault, fired gun

A Schuylkill County man was jailed on Saturday following an incident in which he fire shots from a handgun into the tires on a vehicle during a dispute with a female.

State police at Schuylkill Haven identified the suspect as Jason Markowicz, 35, of Auburn. He has been charged with aggravated assault and related charges.According to troopers between 7:30 and 10:30 p.m. Markowicz and a 35-year-old woman from Auburn were involved in a verbal dispute at 283 Hickory Drive, in West Brunswick Township. During the dispute Markowicz grabbed a handgun from the kitchen and left the house. A short time later he returned and came back into the kitchen.The two were arguing when the victim walked into the dining room. At this point Markowicz followed her into the dining room and took the handgun out of its holster and proceeded to point it the victim's face. The victim then told Markowicz to stop and she went outside to her vehicle.The victim got into her vehicle and was attempting to back out of the garage when Markowicz fired two shots from the handgun at the front and back tires. The bullet that was fired at the front tire went through the wheel well and grazed the victim on the left foot and ankle causing minor abrasions.At this time the victim got out of her car and called police. Police arrived on scene and took Markowicz into custody.He was arraigned before on-call District Judge Stephen Bayer of Tamaqua and committed to the county prison in Pottsville after failing to post $250,000 straight cash bail.
