The Fairview Hose Company in Jim Thorpe will be hosting a benefit on Friday evening for the Wernett family, featuring music, food and more.

The Wernetts' business, Sand Spring Trout Hatchery, was destroyed by a structure fire this past February.The trout that were in the building were lost as well. Local fire teams deemed it a "total loss."Family friend and Jim Thorpe resident Jerry Kmetz had previously put together a small fundraiser for the Wernetts and decided to spearhead a larger event."All I'm trying to do is help a couple of friends out. They're a good bunch of people, and they didn't have insurance on their trout hatchery," Kmetz said.The fundraiser will feature raffles, T-shirt sales, and music sets by local bands.Jim Thorpe resident Tim Benyohelped assemble the music for the show."I'm in one of the bands, and I know the Wernetts," Benyo said."We ended up getting four bands to donate their time and play."The inspiration came from the fact that the Wernetts are musical themselves - the cover band Nightwind features family members Nolie and Mike.Kmetz picked the Fairview Hose Company to host the event, since the family is friends with company members and Nightwind has played some shows there."The musicians in the area are really close-knit, so we try to help each other out," Benyo said.Kmetz said the benefit is a product of a caring community. Friends and fellow Jim Thorpe residents Lisa Dart, Dwayne Hunsicker, and Greg and Judy Doolittle contributed to arranging the event.The "Rebuilding from the Ground Up" Wernett Family Benefit will take place at 6 p.m. at the Fairview Hose Company.All proceeds from the cover charge, along with a portion of food and drink proceeds, will be donated to the Wernetts.
